108 FINE ART - SUMMER NEWSLETTER 2008

METROPOLITAN ACQUIRE MAJOR JOASH WOODROW PAINTING
Leeds Metropolitan University have recentlyacquired ‘Golden Trees’ by Joash Woodrow. This excellent example of Woodrow’s painting is thought to date from the early 1980’s and depicts a view of the allotments in Chapel Allerton; close to the artist’s home and a subject that fascinated him for more than twenty years. The purchase of this large scale work follows on from the publication of the Joash Woodrow ‘Landscapes’ book  published by the University in 2007, and the subsequent major retrospective exhibition held at the University Art Gallery. A ceremony will be held at the University Gallery on the 4th of June, when the University will receive the painting into its collection, along with a select group of drawings and watercolours donated by Joash Woodrow’s family.
This significant purchase by one of the nations leading universities consolidates Woodrow’s place as a major figure in the history of post war British Art; whose work has in only a few years become recognised internationally. Leeds Metropolitan University joins a growing number of public art collections who own examples of the works by Joash Woodrow; including Leeds City Art Gallery, Manchester Art Gallery, Hull University Art Gallery, The Ben Uri Gallery - London, Liverpool University Art Gallery.

PAUL REID RETROSPECTIVE – PERTH ART GALLERY
The long awaited exhibition of paintings and drawings by Paul Reid recently opened at Perth City Art Gallery. This first touring exhibition of Reid’s remarkable mythological paintings continues until 5th July 2008. Consisting of twenty five works the exhibition features most of his large scale paintings produced since he graduated from Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art in 1998.
The exhibition will continue at Dundee University Art Gallery, 26th September – 14th November 2008.

WASTELANDS
With half of the exhibition selling on the first evening, paintings by the young Scottish artist Anna King proved to be very popular, making it one of our most successful ‘newcomer’ exhibitions in recent years. Winner of the prestigious £20,000 Jolomo Lloyds TSB Landscape Award, the artist is currently travelling in Eastern Germany where she will continue her series of works based on abandoned industrial and residential sites. Several new works have recently been received by 108 Fine Art and all works for sale can be viewed at www.108fineart.com
