A review of the current Joash Woodrow 'Landscapes' exhibition appeared in the Financial Times on Saturday 1st December 2007 - 'Portrait of a Lost Artist' , by Financial Times chief art critic Jackie Wullschlager "...Joash Woodrow is the genius of late 20th century British art of whom almost no one has heard." "Woodrows transformation of banality is as lyrical as Chagalls." "That painterly intensity and high seriousnes links Woodrow to his Jewish contemporaries Kossoff, Auerbach, and Freud; what he now needs is a serious London exhibition to unravel the character and scope of his achievement.

Joash WoodrowLandscapes Financial Times on Saturday 1st December 2007 - 'Portrait of a Lost Artist' , by Jackie Wullschlager Following on from the highly successful retrospective exhibition at Leeds Metropolitan University this exhibition of 20 paintings is the first to explore the breadth and development of Joash Woodrow's landscape paintings over a fifty year period. Philip Vann refers to Woodrows work as "Some of the most powerfully and original and expressive works of the last decades". The Times critic John Russell Taylor noted that his 'elected isolation from the art world seems to have done him nothing but good, artistically speaking'. The writer Glyn Hughes declared that 'some of Joash Woodrow's output is likely to stand with the best of English art of the past century'. The exhibition was accomapanied by a fully illustrated 160 page book on Joash Woodrows 'Landscapes' (ISBN 978 0 9548413 2 4). Published by Leeds Metropolitan University in association with 108 Fine Art the book has been written by Philip Vann (author of 'Face to face: A Dictionary of Artists Self Portraits', and monographs on William Crozier and Dora Holzhandler) and Jackie Wullschlager, chief art critic of the Financial Times and author of several successful books. Her biography of Marc Chagall is due for publication in 2008.
