"I wanted to represent the horror that the medieval mind felt at the idea of demons.
Up above, there is heaven and light, while below there is hell and darkness. Despite the fact that we no longer believe this, it is still in the language and phsycologically we still see things like that. Something that comes from above is traditionally good and benevolent and spiritual. If, however you have a malignant thing that normally inhabits the darkness, coming from above and flying, then the fear must be immense"
