Peter Howson
Born in London in 1958, Peter Howson grew up in Glasgow, attending Glasgow School of Art,1975-77 before leaving to join the army, followed by time spent traveling and working in various jobs. He eventually went back to GSA and graduated in 1981. From 1982 - 83 he painted murals for Feltham Community Association, and in 1985 worked as Artist in Residence at St Andrews University.In the same year he became a part time lecturer at GSA. He was appointed Official War Artists for Bosnia 1993 and in 1999 was appointed War Artist for London Times. Kosovo. He currently lives and works in Glasgow.
Peter Howson exhibits widely and has been awarded numerous scholarships and prizes. Major solo exhibitions of his work have been held at The MacLellan Galleries Glasgow, Imperial War Museum London, Flowers East, London. His work is held in the collections of The Scottish Arts Council, Scottish Gallery of Modern Art, Tate Gallery, Victoria and Albert Museum, and many provincial galleries.
