Ralph Brown

Born in 1928 Ralph Brown studied at the Leeds School of Art, Hammersmith School of Art and the Royal College of Art. He was awarded a scholarship to study with Zadkine in Paris and another for study in Greece. In 1957 he was sponsored by Henry Moore for a period of study in Italy, and also worked in Cannes making mosaic panels for Picasso. His influences include Germane Richier, Rodin and Jacob Epstein. He has held a number of teaching posts including at the Royal College of Art. He has completed many public commissions including 'Swimmers' and 'Meat Porters' for Hatfield New Town Hall. A retrospective of his work was held at the Henry Moore Centre for the Study of Sculpture in 1988. Examples of his work can be found in the collections of the Tate Gallery and the Arts Council. He was elected Royal Academician in 1972.
