Blek Le Rat
Born in Paris in 1952 the artist initially studied etching, lithography and painting at the
L'Ecole Nationale Superieure des Beaux-Arts, before studying architecture. It was
through his exploration of architecture, the urban landscape, and his interest in the
prevailing political climate of the time, that he first started to work 'plein air'; providing
the public with an immediate introduction to his art, rather than it being the sole preserve
of the gallery.
He is passionate about creating art in the urban environment and has produced stencilled
and free hand art in many countries throughout Europe, Africa and America.
Recent exhibitions of his art have been a huge success in Los Angeles and London, 2008.
His recently produced book 'Blek Le Rat: Getting Through Walls' has been published by
Thames and Hudson and is now in its third edition.
A six page article appeared in the Sunday Times Magazine, 8th June, 2008.
