Russell Young

Born in 1959, Russell Young's career began as a celebrity photographer. One of his first assignments was photographing George Michael for the now iconic album cover Faith. The project led to shoots for artists including Morrissey, Bruce Springsteen and Bob Dylan. Ten years into his career as a photographer Young began painting, but his work remained private until 2003 when a highly successful exhibition of his work was held at the Don O' Melveny Gallery, Los Angeles. Young's Pig Portraits series feature mug shots of celebrities including Elvis Presley, Steve McQueen and Frank Sinatra. These works explore glamour in the dark side of crime, fame, sex, drugs and rock and roll.
