Gavin Turk

Born in Guildford, 1967, he studied at Kingston Polytechnic, Chelsea School of Art and the Royal College of Art. Turk's early work often involved making his own versions of well known works by famous artists. He has created a number of photographic and sculptural self-portraits such as his sculpture Pop, a waxwork of himself as Sid Vicious in the stance of Warhol's Elvis Presley, and Che, where he posed as the revolutionary Che Guevara. Turk has participated in several major international group exhibitions, with solo exhibitions held at the South London Gallery, Centre d'Art Contemporain in Geneva, The New Art Gallery, Walsall and Schloss Eggenberg, Graz.
