Jamie Reid
Born in Croydon in 1947 Jamie Reid studied at Wimbeldon Art College and then Croydon Art School. On leaving art school he became actively involved with the Situationalist International Movement, before moving to the Isle of Lewis in 1975. The following year his art college friend Malcolm McLaren invited Reid to work with his new music based project The Sex Pistols, producing artwork and publicity materials for a string of their singles and LPs. His sleeve design for the album Never Mind the Bollocks caused instant outrage with a portrait of the Queen with a safety pin through her lip and swastika eyes. Reid exhibits internationally and a recent retrospective of his work proved immensely popular arriving in Liverpool in 2006 via Tokyo and New York, each show having to extend its run to satisfy the overwhelming demand.
